THE MAKING OF

"Theirs is the Glory" is a special film in many respects. It is also a historical documentary. The film's décor was close at hand. Everything necessary was available in the immediate vicinity of Oosterbeek - ravaged houses, abandoned vehicles and historic buildings that played significant roles during the Battle of Arnhem. But the local population also featured in the film, including a number of doctors, Father Dijker, Mrs Ter Horst, a little child and a hairdresser.

Today, 60 years later, in their daily travel people pass by the many of the various locations used for the film at the time. Some of these locations are recognisable from simple things such as a roof that's been repaired, a gate or a wall that still bears the imprints of grenades or bullets.

Sixty years after the filming of "Theirs is the Glory" we are going to revisit the original film locations. Using authentic scenes from the film, hostess Angelique Krüger will show viewers what these film locations look like now. Riding in a jeep that was actually used during the 1944 Battle of Arnhem, she tours and points out unique historical locations. Viewers go back in time to 1945, as it were, to take a look behind the scenes. Angelique talks about what happened during "The making of …", assisted by people from Oosterbeek who took part in this event.
